What is being Stored-up?

We caught this bee,

Supping on the milk weed;

And when we looked closely,

We noticed that its sides,

Were swollen in golden hues.

Turns out,

These “saddlebags,”

Serve as storage receptacles,

For pollen,

Which is then shared,

With the rest of the bee colony.

And I began to wonder,

In fact, to ponder,

If we’re storing up God’s Word,

His promises,

Just so …

So that we have something to share,

With others,

So that they,

May be included in His circle, God’s family?

We found this to be an amazing sight. Did you find the saddlebags, sometimes called sacs or pellets, along the sides of the bee? These pockets, can carry from between 30 to 50 percent of a bee’s weight, in pollen. Fascinating right?

Now what if God weighed the truths of His Word, that we’ve stored-up? Would they come to any such percentage? Just like the bee continually gathers pollen—putting God’s Word into our minds, into our hearts—needs to be a daily discipline. It’s something I work at. It’s something we have to ask the Lord to assist us with. And while I’m thankful for the current freedoms in our nation in this regard, however they are not guaranteed. I think that’s why the discipline of Scripture memorization is so important!

Psalm 119:11 says: “Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against Thee.” Not only does hiding God’s Word in our heart help guard us from sin and temptation, but it brings encouragement. It promotes the promise of God’s care, protection, intercession, and our eternal security.

So how about you? Are you like a bee? Industriously storing up the treasure of God’s truths to be carried into your daily activities, life, family, community and “bee-havior?” ‘Cause whatever we’re storing-up, is what we also have to share. Lord, may Your Word be gathered in our hearts, so that it comes from our lips, like sweet honey. Amen.

P.S.: Psalm 119:11 in the ESV says, "I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you." I always love how the Spirit aligns the concepts He gives me, with the truth of His Word.
