Washed Into

Childhood chalk drawings at the edge of a fountain
Childhood chalk drawings at the edge of a fountain

Children had created chalk drawings on the edge of the fountain. Then, the water splashed and a shower of rain followed. Now, their artwork has washed downward, to fall upon the pavement. The patterns have left traces, shadings, that filled every crevice.

Dear Lord, help us as Your children, to remember that our lives, likewise, leave an impression to those around us. May Your Living Water bring cleansing, so that we are shaded in Your grace, Your hope, and joy. Teach us, to come to You to be filled, so that we can offer Your love like a fountain—of prayer, kindness, or encouragement, day by day.

The images made, were changed as they were hit by water, but they were no less vivid. Instead of being washed away, they were washed-into the concrete below. Create the same effect in us, O God, we pray. Let us leave something of Your heart behind, with our every step. And let us share a testimony of your faithfulness with the children of this generation.

Here are a few spots to “wash” God’s Word into your heart: Deuteronomy 6:5-7, 3 John 1:4, Psalm 37:18, Ephesians 5:1-2, Titus 3:5
