To Glimpse Creation

We had gotten up in the predawn hours to capture this sunrise. It was fairly early in our marriage, and was at the beginning of my husband’s career. In fact, it was to be our first assignment, Biloxi, MS. As I gathered precious memories and photos for this project, this vintage photo stuck out for a few reasons.

First of all, the sun and moon and star’s rotation all over the globe, gives us a glimpse of God’s original creation, daily. Second, as dawn comes to life right before our eyes, it unfolds, to change with each passing hour. Third, God is surely an Artist with His panorama of delightfully painted scenes.

Think of it … out of darkness, comes light. Lamentations 3:22-23 tells us, that God’s faithfulness is new every morning. And as I began to see dawn’s breaking—as coming out of the void of nighttime’s veil—it was a fresh reminder of this truth. Even on the cloudiest day, there is a brightness that rises at the horizon. It’s as if God is giving us insights into His nature, if we will but take the time to observe them.

Just pause and behold the colors of this special morning. This is not photoshop, this is God’s grandeur. The play of light and shadow and reflection, are His version of prisms, rainbows and refractions of His majesty. And while we got to be there firsthand, everyday that we wakeup, open our eyes, take a breath, is a gift to us.

Out of darkness, we wake from our slumber. Out of darkness, we rise, to see light shine through our rooms and upon the earth. And every day, we get to experience the Light of the World in some new faceted way, as He lives and moves and breathes upon all creation.

“The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never

cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh

each morning.” Lamentations 3:22-23 NLT

To catch a glimpse of creation, is to hold a little child-like wonder in our hearts, no matter our age. Great is Your faithfulness, indeed, O God. Each morning, I will pause to behold You and give You my praise. Amen.
