Tiger Lily vs. Tiger Lily

Weekly Inspiration for 30 July through 5 August 2022

We had seen this type of lily in a local garden. In fact, I featured them in an up-coming project. But it wasn’t until recently, when we were at a nursery, that I learned that it’s called a Tiger Lily. So we purchased one to add to our garden space.

I caught our Tiger Lily,

Sitting near our plants,

Which I had placed near the window,

To get a little sunshine.

Then I caught our outdoor lily,

By the same name,

As it opened its first bloom.

It too likes the sun.

Both have a version of whiskers.

Both have spots or stripes.

Both are fiery,

In their finery or disposition.

Both are creations of God’s amazing design.

I love how the lily is used as an example of God’s care in Matthew 6:28-30 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?” (NLT)

The Tiger Lily’s floral meaning is friendship, protection, pride (as a positive virtue). And our Tiger Lily reflects these as well. I love how God’s nature mirrors these qualities too. He is our dearest Friend. He is our Protector. And He has pride in His children—calling us heirs and entering into a personal relationship with us. Have you had some time with the Son, today?
