Doug and I pray together in the morning, in the evening. And usually, this is the scene. We either sit side by side holding hands or cuddle-up in our rocker. But no matter which, Tilly draws near. She gently closes her eyes, as if to participate.
In fact, she reminds me of the verses of Matthew 18:19-20 “Again, I assure you: If two of you on earth agree about any matter that you pray for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there among them.” (HCSB). She’s always near. And seems to sense that this time is “set apart,” reverent, in our home.
Now you may say, it’s your quiet tones and the peaceful environment that prayer creates that appeals to her ... that may be true; but perhaps our Creator has also put within every creation, the simple need to pause, to be still, and to bow. In fact, those words are captured in Psalm 46:10.
We learn to know one another by seeking each other’s heart, likes/dislikes, and by spending time together. The same is true with developing a relationship with Jesus, as well as deepening our faith and trust in Him. Prayer, allows us to bring everything (in an attitude of gratitude—Philippians 4:6-7). We’re told that our pure prayers avail—Spirit-filled results. (James 5:16b). And that we encourage one another when we lift one another up, regularly. (Ephesians 6:18).
So today, tonight, no matter who shares your space—speak your heart, share your thoughts—with your Creator. For often, the very act of praying, brings a sense of peace, in and of itself. And of note, the Spirit is our Intercessor (Romans 8:26-27), so even if you live alone, or feel like you are praying alone, there are two joined if you’re a child of God, since the Spirit is alive and at work within you. Ever think of that?
Your prayers avail much, always, because the Spirit takes your hand, and holds you close. That’s an encouragement! And it makes me thankful, everyday, for every good and perfect gift from our Lord (James 1:17)—including Tiger Lily—when she joins us, to pray. The simple need to pause that God places within us, is His invitation for communion with us, heart to heart, to give Him worship and to give us peace.
