The Iris's Praise

Irises growing in the center garden area of our neighborhood.
Irises growing in the center garden area of our neighborhood.

When I saw these Irises,

Blooming ‘long the stream,

I noticed they were growing,

By water fresh and clean.

Dressed in royal purple,

They lifted their lovely heads.

And my thoughts,

To You,

O God, were led.

I saw them,

As if praising.

From bud to fullest flower.

Fragile yet strongly,

Their worship,

Grew this very hour.

For in the light they unfolded,

Daily they have been unfurled,

Clothed in Your majesty,

As if thoughtlessly, hurled …

Yet carefully, You are tending,

These petals of grand design.

And I am in awe,

At Your glorious works so fine.

I am praising.

Lifting up my head and heart,

To You, O God,

I am constantly, led!

These Irises just seemed to be be the perfect illustration for praising God. Here they were, right near a flowing stream, lifting their blooms toward the sun. And I thought this image shows us, how to love You, Lord. May You fill our minds with Your grand designs, until our hearts overflow with praise! Amen.

“Raise the voice of joy to God, all the earth! Sing out the honor of His name! Make His praise great!” Psalm 66:1-2 NLV
