How can a caterpillar show you the covenant of God's joy?
We found a caterpillar,
In the garden one day.
He formed a rainbow of sorts,
Along our way.
He sat among the flowerbeds,
That were alive with bloom;
He bowed to inhale their fragrance,
In this outdoor, posie-room.
He reminded me,
To pause, to take a little time,
In these places of creation,
That God fashions,
—So sublime.
This caterpillar was part of an artful display in a local garden. In a turquoise hue, he bowed yet rose, to form a version of rainbow. He was highlighted by the sun above and the colors surrounding him. As we stopped to admire the scene, I could imagine the joy he brought to young and old, alike.
This is why God’s natural (and man-made creations) delight me so … I love to discover them, like treasures. For to see the flowers He’s made, the brilliant blue sky, the varied kinds of trees and foliage, rocks, and even a hand-crafted caterpillar—all lifted my eyes to the One Who is Creator of it all. He’s the God of promises, covenant, and of drawing us near through each of His designs.
This caterpillar rainbow brings us a good lesson: pause long enough to bow. Then add a little vibrancy to your environment by expressing some ray of hope, God’s goodness. ‘Cause He created us—to know Him through these wondrous gifts—that are right along our path!
