Some of it always escapes!

Cereal mix
Cereal mix

In our house, we mix a couple of cereals with granola to form our own breakfast blend. Pictured, is one of the choices of this particular day. When we have used the product down so far in the box, I discard the outer packaging and simply use the inside bag with a clothespin attached, to store it in our cupboard to save space. But no matter the brand, this is usually the way of it … in order to recycle the box, you have to shake out some cereal from the bottom.

Now, some of you are already smiling … because you know that the Lord has given me a spiritual lesson. Well, here it is: When we leave a room, a store, the presence of our church, our workplace, etc—did we leave anything good behind? Have we shared any encouragement? Have we told of God’s love or something that He’s doing in our lives? Have we brightened anyone’s day or outlook—by simply coming into contact with them?

See, the cereal is in a sealed bag—yet somehow, some of it always escapes! Our love for Jesus should fill us with joy that’s contagious! Our countenance should be lit with His Light. Our hope in Him should be felt long after we leave another’s company. Our communication should be rich in God’s healing words, prayer, and praise. In other words, if we are a child of God, something of God’s nature and character—should escape—from our lips, our actions, and our hearts!

2 Corinthians 1: 21-22, tells us: “Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us,  set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.” This is a promise worth pouring over, feeding upon, and sharing! Let some of Jesus’ love, joy, and peace—escape—to fill your family, community, and the world!

2 Corinthians 5:18-21 says: “All these new things are from God who brought us back to himself through what Christ Jesus did. And God has given us the privilege of urging everyone to come into his favor and be reconciled to him. 19 For God was in Christ, restoring the world to himself, no longer counting men’s sins against them but blotting them out. This is the wonderful message he has given us to tell others. 20 We are Christ’s ambassadors. God is using us to speak to you: we beg you, as though Christ himself were here pleading with you, receive the love he offers you—be reconciled to God. 21 For God took the sinless Christ and poured into him our sins. Then, in exchange, he poured God’s goodness into us (TLB)!”

If you are filled with Jesus, He can’t help but escape, because you want to share the goodness of His grace and love!

Dear Lord, may we be like this cereal—so filled with Your Spirit within—that we’re exploding to share Your love with our everyday world. Amen.
