This little town has a lighthouse that stretches out beyond its shore. But what I loved about this photo, is that as boats move inland (returning), they are met by another sign, a symbol of “safe harbor.” Up on the hill stands a church, with its beautiful steeple pointing into the sky—toward the Lord on high.
The lighthouse is certainly a welcome sight to ships out on Lake Michigan. But to me, the beacon on the hill, above the water, reminds me whose hands really control the waves.
Dear Lord, I look to You when the seas of my life feel choppy. It is Your close presence I seek as my safe harbor. You are the beacon I run to on the darkest night. For in Thee, I find refuge from the storm, as You whisper to my soul, “peace, be still.” Amen.
When you feel "at sea"—remember that Jesus—is the Light. He will direct your journey. By lighthouse or church steeple, those who sail these waters see a sign of refuge. These are not the security, in and of themselves—they simply point us to the Refuge on the Hill, the Lord of All.
"God, you give true peace to people who depend on you, to those who trust in you."
