Colorful September sunset
Colorful September sunset

I love how this September sunset washed the horizon and sky in shades of rose, gold, and lavender. Then, it did the same on the road to reflect the same shades on the car’s hood and onto the dashboard.

The scene reminded me of serenity with its wisps of clouds dancing toward heaven. It was a perfect evening for a drive home following a day trip. Taking the back country roads was not only more scenic but also more restful.

Ever find that colors like these—in your environment or your home (office/surroundings)—influence you? Ever find that creation has a soothing effect because there’s something profoundly beautiful about being surrounded by the things God’s created? Ever feel in awe of Him as Creator and drawn to want to know more of His Word and ways?

I often feel this way. To me, moments like this increase my sense of worship because my mind and heart are seeking God, His Spirit, and attributes. These types of encounters teach me to slow down, know, and experience the goodness of God.

Creation is highlighted throughout Scripture, not just in Genesis; I believe that is no accident. References to creation are found in regard to praise, descriptions of God’s grandeur, and even our eternal home. Let's look to His Word to reflect on some of these truths:

Psalm 121:1-2: “I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth (NIV).”

Isaiah 40:28 “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable (ESV).”

Amos 9:6: “The Lord’s home reaches up to the heavens, while its foundation is on the earth. He draws up water from the oceans and pours it down as rain on the land. The Lord is his name (NLT)!”

Psalm 19: "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. 2 Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. 3 They have no speech, they use no words, no sound is heard from them. 4 Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun. 5 It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. 6 It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is deprived of its warmth. 7 The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. 8 The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. 9 The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. 10 They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb. 11 By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward. 12 But who can discern their own errors? Forgive my hidden faults. 13 Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression. 14 May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer (NIV).”

Just as creation reflects the heart of God, our appreciation of all that He’s made demonstrates to Him our love and adoration.
