Quest

We spotted this bike along our path one morning while we were out walking. It is imprinted with the word “Quest.” I was thinking from a child’s point of view that’s what a bike offers—adventure on two wheels. With it, kids can explore the neighborhood and local parks. They can ride solo or with family and friends.

The Imprint on this bike, "Quest" became the inspiration for how we can follow Christ.

This toy opens new sights, sounds and environments to a child. It exposes them to new things, new creations, people and places. Guess, I’d call that a quest, indeed.

As I was thinking about this bike, I wonder … have you kept some of that “curious, adventure-seeking attitude” as you’ve aged? ‘Cause I’m finding that one of the ways that we learn to know Jesus better is by having these qualities, by asking questions, and by delighting in God’s amazing creations. This attitude also keeps us seeking God’s Will. It means that we are not satisfied to stay where we are spiritually, but want to move beyond whatever He is teaching us at any given time. It means that we are learning to dig deeper into His truths. It means that we are persistent and disciplined in our prayer-life. And that we turn to the Lord, quickly, when we make a wrong turn.

“My child, if you will receive my sayings and hide my commands with you, in order to incline your ear toward wisdom, then you shall apply your heart to understanding. For if you cry out for understanding, if you lift your voice for insight, if you seek her like silver and search her out like treasure, then you will understand the fear of Yahweh, and the knowledge of God you will find. For Yahweh will give wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. For the upright, he stores sound judgment, a shield for those who walk uprightly, in order to guard paths of justice and keep the way of his faithful ones.” Proverbs 2:1-8 LEX

Quests are good in life. They can broaden our horizons. And just as a bike helps a kid have a little freedom, having curiosity and adventurous spirit toward God, may help us in developing faith that follows wherever He leads.

Dear Lord, help us to have a “quest mentality” when it comes to seeking Your presence, reading and meditating upon Your Word, and following where You lead. Amen.
