A Compass sunflower "chasing the sun"
A Compass sunflower "chasing the sun"

This is called a Compass sunflower. If you look closely, you’ll see the flowers' face in every direction, just as their name indicates. From the two stems, the flowers face N, S, E, and W. They drew my eye because I told Doug they look like they have been “chasing the sun.”

Spiritual analogy? Jesus longs for us to pursue Him like these flowers are doing. He wants us to come to Him with our praises, petitions, and pleas. 1 Chronicles 16:11 tells us to: “Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his face (NIV)—or presence (ESV)—continually!” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 encourages us to: “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (NKJV).” And Proverbs 8:17 says, “I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me (ESV).”

No matter who we are, where we go, or where the Spirit leads us—God wants us to walk with us. He’s our Guardian, Guide, and Dearest Companion. So if you’re in a place with questions, doubts, and fears … if you’re going through a time of testing, hurt, illness, or simply seeking to be in the center of God’s Will—look up and into the Father’s eyes. Run into His loving arms. Abide in His Word, and trust that He’s working on your behalf because He loves you and watches over your steps from the N, S, E, and W daily!

Thank You, Jesus, for lessons like this that teach us from creation how wide, deep, high, and long Your love and gracious nature are toward us. Teach us to seek, chase, and talk openly to You. Guide us, we pray, so that we obey You and grow closer to Your image each day. Amen.

Happy Labor Day from our home to yours!
