I have a friend who lives in Florida. As we were texting, she mentioned that forsythia is one of her favorite signs of Spring, but that it doesn’t grow in the South. So when we were at a local garden following our chat, I snapped this photo of these same blooms that were highlighted by the sun, to send her.

I love how forsythia seem to grow in such a free-spirted fashion. They, and her life, seem to express a lightness of heart. To me, that’s the beauty of how God fashions things and people. Each is unique and worthy of our attention. And these floral branches stood out, especially, since they were set against a backdrop of still barren limbs.

Lightness of heart can be a very appealing quality in our world today. It can draw others to us. However, it does not indicate a lack of issues in one’s life. Instead, it usually signifies, and stems from, a heart that trusts in God. It means that this person is surrendered to God’s Will, while also being in awe of Him.

How are you doing in this area? For no matter where you live, these bright and graceful blooms may be a message from the Creator to put on a sunny disposition—so that we draw others—to Him.

The forsythia’s floral meanings include: joy and happiness, warmth, wisdom, confidence, and they signify new beginnings. See, they display a lightness of heart, indeed!

Here are a few places to pause, in order gain a lightness-of-heart: Psalm 118:24, Proverbs 15:30, Proverbs 17:22, Psalm 68:3, Psalm 37:4, Colossians 3:12-17, Psalm 28:7
