Recently we found this “mailbox” labeled “Letters to Santa.” I can picture in my mind, the image of children seated around dinner tables, on the floor and on their beds, with their crayons, markers and such, making their lists and checking them twice. Perhaps they asked for some need to be fulfilled or some fanciful wish to be sprinkled like fairy-dust under the tree, in their home, life or family.
As I was pondering this Christmas-tide, I was thinking about the One that the season centers upon, Jesus. With a simple whisper we can reach the throne of heaven, His holy ear. We do not need to put a letter in an envelop and mail our petitions, prayers, and praises. Instead, our simplest pleas and words of adoration are lifted like incense through His Spirit.
But if you have never done so, writing a letter to Jesus, is a beautiful act of worship. Taking the time to list a few blessings, or speaking the deepest need or concern of our hearts—draws God’s attention. So as you write your Christmas cards, and make all manner of preparations in this blessed season—maybe you do want to write a letter—to the Lord of the Universe, the Babe of the Manger, to the King of Kings. ‘Cause love expressed to God, and others, reflects the spirit of the patron Saint, St. Nicholas, who lived long ago.
Blessings in this Holy Season; you are written on the heart of God, with love!
“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”
