Kaleidoscope

2 P & P weekly blog for 2-8 March 2024

I’ve always been fascinated with kaleidoscopes. Think about it … a round tube produces angles, triangles, and geometric shapes that reflect light. Then, with each twist they move and change to reveal new images, like art that you’ve had a hand in forming.

Well one day I was thinking: “How must earth appear from the heavenly realms?” Imagine looking down at all the rainbow hues of a sunrise set against the stage of clouds as they part to reveal dawn’s arrival. Or the ragged edges of snow-capped mountain peaks, tallest evergreens, and valleys low creating landscapes that undulate like waves. Or what about the sea in shades of aqua, turquoise and deepest blue? Or gardens, flowers, and vegetation from subtle to bold rising upward across the globe? What about the birds and animals and reptiles of every kind, as they communicate God’s creativity? And all the varied textures? From rainforest to the desert to geysers to volcanos … to the moon and stars, and galaxies that we can only imagine? Can you see them in all their glory, with all their facets and prism-like qualities, as appearing like a kaleidoscope of earth’s grandeur on display?

I can almost hear God sigh with delight from all the wonders He has made as each meets His omnipotent eye. I can see Him on the throne receiving praise because He reigns over it all, governs it all, and has supremacy over it all. Yet we are blessed to live among such beauty and majesty. And how awesome that we are given glimpses of Who He is through these things. Because everyday, His loving-kindness is bestowed to us through creation.

Take a look around you. Behold the shapes, colors, textures, angles, and geometric designs. I pray that you see God’s good earth as a kaleidoscope of His love, care, provision, and grace. Because the One Who took so much time as Creator of them—created you—uniquely, perfectly, with jeweled-facets as well.

Dear Lord, may the beauty of creation touch our souls so deeply that we are shaped by Your amazing love. Father, may we reflect Your beauty to every part of our circle of life. For in the turning of our days, You are giving us not only glimpses into Who You are, but Who You are creating us to be—image bearers, kaleidoscopes that live, and move and reflect Your love to all the world, and across every landscape. May we share Your story until we join You in heaven, to enjoy the view of the new heaven and earth. From here to eternity, it’s You that we praise! Amen.

“For this is what the Lord says, the one who created the sky—he is the true God, the one who formed the earth and made it; he established it, he did not create it without order, he formed it to be inhabited: ‘I am the Lord, I have no peer.’” Isaiah 45:18 (NET)
