Jesus (can't be) Erased

Weekly Inspiration for 16-22 July 2022

This was our “find” along a boardwalk recently. Among the changing scenery, were these words written on the side rail: “Our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ Returns Soon …” What was interesting, as you can see by the photo, is that it looks as though someone else tried to rub or sand, part of this phrase, off. Gave us pause!

We have removed Jesus from many things in our society. Many are on a crusade to continue on, with this momentum. Yet the line that was written along the boardwalk … is surely true. And at some point—be it very soon … or if He decides to tarry—the Lord will return.

While the world may blur the lines of what is right and wrong—Jesus cannot be entirely removed from our culture—because His Spirit dwells in the heart, in the soul of His children, His followers, those who have surrendered their lives to Him. Now is the time to walk with Him. Now, is the time to come back to what you learned as a child. Now, is the time to seek Him for the first time.

Because there stood timbers more than 2000 years ago that formed a Cross, where Jesus displayed His love for all of mankind. And there rang in the air, the sound of metal hitting metal, as nails were struck, to pierce His hands and feet. The grace and forgiveness that He demonstrated and lived out for us—paved the way—for us to believe, so that we would serve Him, worship Him, and love Him.

“Soon” may be a relative term. It may be an exact term. No one knows the day or the hour of Christ’s return. But the heart that belongs to Him, is eternally secure. Where are you walking? Are you trying to blur the lines? Are you trying to rub out the truth? Or are you joyfully anticipating the Lord’s return?

Jesus Erased? Not for more than 2000 years. Not in the hearts of those who love Him. Not for all eternity in the lives of those He calls His own. Let these, be written on your soul, and you’ll sleep a little better at night. You’ll have a little more peace. And you will be, watching for Jesus’ return!
