It Begins at the Top

We have a stately tree, right outside our front door. It’s beginning to show the first signs of Autumnal color. In fact, its limbs look as though they have been dipped in paint, to perfectly highlight them. The leaves at the top, and the furtherest reaches of the sides, are the ones that are changing most quickly with the cooler nights.

Leaves began to change, at the top of the tree. God reaches us, through our intellect, our senses--to speak into our hearts--His love.
It Begins at the Top

This is much like our knowledge or acceptance of Jesus. Think about it ... we must receive His Word, a message from a pastor, a friend, a loved one—into our head, our ears, our eyes—before it can reach our heart. Much like the leaves, we cannot be changed in our center—our heart—until our external selves are receptive.

God works from the inside out; but it’s all about the inner being. He begins at the top, with our thoughts, with our intelligence, with our senses ... before He can touch our emotions and souls. And I don’t know about you, but I want to honor Him from the top of my head to the tips of my toes—so I pray, daily, for His changing grace to touch every part of me. How about you?

Lord, may You begin at the top of us, to transform us, into a closer reflection of Your image in every season. And may we be shaded with Your love, so that it spills over into our every atmosphere. This is our humblest prayer and praise. Amen.

When we allow God to begin at the top of us—our minds—He often uses our lives, stretching us to our furtherest reaches, to bless His holy name.
