Frost on fallen autumn leaves
Frost on fallen autumn leaves

I love how the leaves that had fallen were graced with a fresh coat of frost. Each leaf appeared to be touched individually by God’s hand with the tiniest of crystals. Each shade—gold, wine, brown, and chartreuse—was highlighted subtly in a softer hue.

Autumn’s glory was enfolded in a robe of majestic wonderment. To me, this is the beauty of this season, personified. It reminded me of harvest time and how the Lord blesses the earth with His care.

Let’s read from the Word what God has to say about how He graces us and all of creation with these blessings.

Psalm 67: 1-3 & 6-7 ESV: “May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us, Selah 2 that your way may be known on earth, your saving power among all nations. 3 Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you! … 6 The earth has yielded its increase; God, our God, shall bless us. 7 God shall bless us; let all the ends of the earth fear him!”

Deuteronomy 11:13-14 ICB: “Carefully obey the commands I am giving you today. Love the Lord your God. Serve him with your whole being. 14 Then he will send rain on your land at the right time, in the fall and spring. You will be able to gather your grain, new wine and oil.”

2 Corinthians 9:10 LEB: “Now the one who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will provide and multiply your seed, and will cause the harvest of your righteousness to grow.”

Psalm 85:12 TLB: “Yes, the Lord pours down his blessings on the land, and it yields its bountiful crops.”

Hosea 10:12 ESV: “Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and rain righteousness upon you.”

Psalm 65:9-13 NIV: "You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly. The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it. 10 You drench its furrows and level its ridges; you soften it with showers and bless its crops. 11 You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance. 12 The grasslands of the wilderness overflow; the hills are clothed with gladness. 13 The meadows are covered with flocks and the valleys are mantled with grain; they shout for joy and sing.”

Dear Lord, what beautiful word pictures You give us to portray Your loving-kindness to us (Your children) and of Your creation, earth. As You faithfully send the seasonal rains to make the flowers and grain grow, Jesus, help me to trust You to be the Guardian of every need and concern in my life. I know that I am held in Your hand. Just as I can see frost coat each leaf, I know that You have Your eye upon me (my family, friends, our nation, and all that is going on in and for Your kingdom). I surrender to Your Will and plan, O God, because I don’t want anything less than to have Your touch upon every area of my mind, heart, and being. Amen.

Trust that God’s work of grace—within, upon, and around you—is active and alive, and you’ll experience a lot less doubt, fear, and worry about your day-to-day necessities!
