Her Covering

Weekly Inspiration for the week of May 7-13, 2022

My Mom, who passed away last September, was known for her hats. She shared with me a number of years before her death, that the church that she was raised in, practiced the discipline of the ladies covering their heads for church services. Time passed, and she and my Dad met and married and moved to our family-home in Pennsylvania. My brothers and I were raised there. And to a Sunday, my mom wore a hat to church.

While some thought her love of hats was just a style-conscious decision—I’m glad to know that her lovely collection of hats held a deeper meaning—that she recognized, and bowed to Jesus, as her true covering.

On Mom’s Day, it’s with bittersweet emotions that I share this. Naturally, I miss her. But it’s with joy that I also share her love and testimony of faith. She passed these on to her family and exemplified her beliefs in her workplace, in our neighborhood, and in the community. And if you need a source of protection, strength, peace, or joy—God’s inviting you into relationship—into His supernatural-covering.

“He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.”

Psalm 91:4 NLT

Thank you Mom, for your love and prayers, which covered us no matter where we have lived. Thank you, Jesus, for Mom’s hats ultimately being part of her testimony. And thank You, Lord, for being our covering, too!

Her covering—can be yours—by simply calling upon the same Jesus and bowing your life to His Will.
