Weekly Inspiration for week of 17 - 23 December 2022
We woke up Friday,
To a world of white,
Such beauty,
To behold. It was falling fast,
No matter how long it lasts …
A fairyland, unfolds.
It was covering,
It was smothering,
All that was drab and brown.
How glorious,
This gift of down,
That was dropping from heaven,
To hit the ground;
But not until,
It decorated,
Every limb and tree.
Thank You, God,
For all creation,
(Even snow),
That lifts my eyes,
Jesus, unto Thee.
I’m forever in awe of God’s amazing creations in every season. Take snow for instance. Perfect, individual, crystalline flakes, fall, to cover the landscape. They stay for a short or long period of time making earth beautiful. But as they descend, they raise our eyes to appreciate God’s glory, His creativity and holiness.
As we drove along, it was like a snowball hit the car from the trees. I started to laugh and told Doug … “God’s having a little fun.” What wonder and delight fills my heart at Your majesty, Oh God. I’m grateful for the beauty of snow, for the awe that fills my soul, and for the lesson that You take such delight in us, that You would provide something that would encourage us to want to play, and to know You more. Amen.
Last week, I read a comment … that “Christmas is not about snow” … I understand the point—the person simply meant that the focus of Christmas is/should be about Jesus’ birth. I couldn’t agree more. In our home, that is the case. But I’d like you to consider something … the same God Who divinely, by His Spirit placed Jesus in the womb of a virgin, to be born in such a humble way (as a miracle), is the same one Who is the Creator of snow. So to worship Him for every good and perfect gift (James 1:17) in this Holy Season brings Him honor and glory!
Jesus, the Babe, was a form of glory descending, and the snow is no less a miracle of God’s holiness, beauty and majesty. I’m thankful for the wonder of Who Jesus is, and for the gifts He still gives to all humanity.
Pause to give God glory: John 1:14, Luke 2:14, Psalm 3:3, Isaiah 60:1, 1 Peter 1:8,
Psalm 84:11, Psalm 138:5
