Glory and Gratitude

2 P&P Weekly Blog for 28 September - 4 October 2024

A snowy autumn morning
A snowy autumn morning

It was the first snowfall of the season. Overnight, gentle flakes graced the landscape, landing on the fallen logs and in every crevice. It dusted the highest treetops, too. We entered this forest on a crisp, cool Autumnal morning to take a walk as part of a day trip. We often do things like this—make little stops along the way as part of the adventure. The space was so quiet; it was also like entering holy ground. Talking to the Lord seemed automatic. Praise came equally as easy.

As we walked hand-in-hand, we did just that while giving God glory and gratitude from our hearts. The scenery was beautiful, with a vivid blue sky that formed a canopy above us and trees that stretched above our heads and displayed His grandeur and artistry. Sunshine lit the woods like a cathedral. How could we not see the presence and holiness of the Lord here?

Let’s read a few verses that refer to seeing God through the wondrous things that He’s made.

Hebrews 1:3 ESV: “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.”

Romans 1:20 ESV: “For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.”

Genesis 8:22 NLT: “As long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night.”

Isaiah 6:3 ESV: “And one called to another and said: 'Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!'”

Revelation 4:11 ESV: “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”

Father, as I enter places like this, I cherish looking for Your beauty. Creation speaks to my heart because so many verses tell us that it’s one of the ways that You reach out to mankind. Thank You for seeking us. Thank You for displaying Your majesty and holiness through everyday things that we encounter so that we can learn to know You. Thank You also for how these types of quiet spaces serve as an invitation to talk to You or praise or meditate upon Your care for us. Your nature is made apparent as we slow down and appreciate our Creator. This special bond inspires me to read Your Word and want to be made closer into Your likeness daily. Amen.

Glory and Gratitude are closely joined together in giving God praise. Why? It’s by appreciating His good gifts (physically, emotionally, and spiritually) that we know and are known, love and are loved by our great God, Savior, and King.
