2 P&P Weekly Blog for 5 - 11 April 2025

I love watching the various signs of Spring. From the grass greening., to birds returning and building nests,. to scenes like this—where the trees begin to bud—God is busy bringing all things to life in this new season.

In this case, did you notice that before the leaves appear, their “buds” appear as flowers? I find this to be a beautiful process in God’s creation. Only He could form so many shapes and colors and attach them to a tree!

The first buds of spring
The first buds of Spring

How like our Maker,

To form a tender leaf,

From a bud of pink,

And in the shape of a flower,

Before it will unfurl,

To curl,

Then unfold,

To be green,

And vibrant,

Shiny and new,

A miracle from His hand.

Then in the Autumn,

These will change,

And transform,

To be colored by His artistry,

In shades like jewels.

Thanks be to God,

Who is matchless,

In His love, creativity,

And His ever faithful care!

Genesis 1:11-12 (NIV): “Then God said, ‘Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.’ And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.”

Ezekiel 17:5-6 & 22-24 (NIV): “He took one of the seedlings of the land and put it in fertile soil. He planted it like a willow by abundant water, 6 and it sprouted and became a low, spreading vine. Its branches turned toward him, but its roots remained under it. So it became a vine and produced branches and put out leafy boughs. … ’22 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will take a shoot from the very top of a cedar and plant it; I will break off a tender sprig from its topmost shoots and plant it on a high and lofty mountain. 23 On the mountain heights of Israel I will plant it; it will produce branches and bear fruit and become a splendid cedar. Birds of every kind will nest in it; they will find shelter in the shade of its branches. 24 All the trees of the forest will know that I the Lord bring down the tall tree and make the low tree grow tall. I dry up the green tree and make the dry tree flourish. I the Lord have spoken, and I will do it.’”

Proverbs 11:30 (ESV): “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and whoever captures souls is wise.”

Psalm 1:1-3 (NIV): Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.”

Each of these Scriptures demonstrates God’s power in creation, but also His power to transform our lives as well by using the tree as an analogy for the righteous life. Oh Lord, it is our prayer to be changed day by day into a closer reflection of Your likeness. Make and mold us with each season (literally and figuratively) to show “buds,” new leaves, and to flourish under Your faithful care.
