A Bowed Attitude

Weekly Inspiration for week of 20-26 August 2022

A bowed statue among the blooms
A bowed statue among the blooms

We found this little oriental girl,

In the middle of a garden.

Her head was bowed,

Over her simple bouquet.

Her setting was lovely,

With Summer’s posies,

That were yet, in bloom.

She looked like she was praying,

In this lovely outdoor room.

And in this moment,

I found,

That my heart,

Bowed, here too.

In numerous places in the Bible (see below), God’s Word tell us that He honors the humble heart, the one who fears Him, who has or displays a contrite spirit. And finding this simple garden statue, made me think of these qualities. God loves when we come before Him to give Him praise and honor and adoration. He loves when we show our love for Him in these ways. For through prayer and meditation, and drawing near, we learn to know Who He is, and thus, we see how much higher He is, than ourselves.

"My hand made all these things, and so they all came into being. This is the Lord’s declaration. I will look favorably on this kind of person: one who is humble, submissive in spirit, and trembles at My word." Isaiah 66:2 HCSB

To bow before You, God,

Is an honor.

And whether I am admiring Your handiwork,

In the garden,

Or seeking You,

By drawing near in meditation …

I humble myself,

Under Your great authority,

Your power and Your name.

I often find that You lift my face,

To see and know,

More of Your love, peace and grace,

When I demonstrate,

—A bowed attitude.

Amen.

A bowed attitude, keeps our heart in a place to receive God’s instruction, so that He helps us grow to be more like Himself.

Some references of God honoring a humble/contrite heart or spirit:

James 4:6, Proverbs 29:23, Proverbs 3:34, Psalm 51:17, 1 Peter 5:6, Colossians 3:12
