Tiger Lily has all kinds of cozy places to lie in our home. She has a soft cup to curl up in. She loves to stretch out on our bed after it’s been freshly made each morning. She has an ottoman that she enjoys taking naps on in the afternoons. She loves the couch and sometimes nestles beside me as I work.
But today, here is where I found her—on the floor—on a shopping bag that we had purchased. And she couldn’t have looked more content. This spot is right inside our back door. With the screen open—as I worked outside—she caught the fresh breezes that flowed through the house.
As I took her picture, she looked up at me almost adoringly. She made me think of sitting at Jesus’ feet someday—with that same sweet look on my face—in rapt attention. Cozy. Known. Loved. Called by name. Adopted. Being perfectly cared for and feeling perfectly content in the Master’s presence.
Of course, we can feel that now—by reading God’s Word, praying, and meditating upon His goodness and faithfulness. But we will know and be fully known only when we see the Lord face to face. 1 Corinthians 13:12 (NIV) explains it this way: “For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.”
Question: do these ideas make you feel cozy or fill your heart with concern? Your reaction may be an indication of where you stand with Jesus.
Jesus is inviting us to sit at His feet. He’s inviting us into the saving knowledge of His love, forgiveness, and grace. And He’s available to lead and guide our lives—day by day—so that we maintain a sense of joy—that ultimately leaves us feeling cozy, at peace, and protected by His care.
Dear Lord, thank You for the image of Tilly lying so contently on the floor. She helps me remember to be grateful for the big and small ways You provide us. Thank You for every cozy thing You provide—our home, soft throws, and our Bibles which encourage us to know You more. Help us to sit at Your feet each day—so that we gain some sense of Your joy—some feeling of being cozy—and at home in Your presence. We love You as our Master, Abba Daddy, Savior, and dearest Friend. Amen.
